The outstanding debt of 18,8 billion Euro which the Federal Republic of Germany owes to the Romanian State is offered by the artists as a promising business opportunity for capital investment. A due diligence report written by a lawyer is sent by post to German companies involved in purchasing debt. Since the case of these historical financial obligations has been downplayed or ignored by official representatives of both states' governments, a business practice utilized in private equity and hedge fund speculation - deeply entangled with the current international economic crisis - provides a possible alternative model for obtaining a monetary compensation of the Romanian state and its citizens. In the age of neoliberal governance, the claim for the correction of historical injustice appears legitimate and feasible only if successfully integrated into the pursuit of economic interests.
